ReelTempo vs boosting posts
They do different jobs. Boosting pays Meta to show a post you have already published to more people, so it needs a post worth showing. ReelTempo makes reels from your own footage for you to review and post. If you already have good posts and a budget for ads, boost them; if the posts are what's missing, start by making them.

How boosting works, according to Meta
Meta's Business Help Center describes a boosted post as an ad you create from content you have already published on your Facebook Page or Instagram account, including posts, Stories and Reels. Meta presents it as a quick way to have a post reach more people on Facebook, Messenger or Instagram.
When you boost a post, Meta says you decide:
- your goal, such as more messages, engagement or website visitors
- the ad text, using the post's text or adding variations
- when it starts and ends, or whether it runs until the budget is spent
- your budget
- where it appears
Meta also says boosted posts can help you reach people who are likely interested in your business but do not follow you yet. After a boost is published you can change its audience, budget or end date, but you cannot change its text, images or video. To change those, Meta says you need to make a new post and boost that.
A boost is billed as an ad. Meta notes that boosted posts have fewer customisation and detailed targeting options than ads made in Ads Manager, which offers more objectives and placements. Meta also warns that an Apple service fee of 30% of the ad payment may apply when you boost in the Facebook app on an iPhone or iPad, or, in most regions, when you add funds to your ad account in the Instagram app on iOS.
What ReelTempo does
ReelTempo works on the step before. You upload your business's own phone videos and photos. It finds the moments worth using, cuts a short reel to music, puts words on screen and drafts a caption. You review every reel, change any words or swap a shot, then post it on Instagram or Facebook.
Starter and Studio make reels for ordinary posts. Growth, which is opening soon, will also be able to promote approved reels as ads on your own Meta account. Ad spend is always separate from the plan price. Nothing is posted or promoted without your approval.
Side by side
| Boosting a post | ReelTempo |
|---|---|
| Shows a post you already made to more people. | Makes the reel from your footage. |
| You pay Meta the budget you set. | A monthly plan per business, from US$19. Ad spend is separate. |
| Text and video are fixed once the boost is published. | You change words or shots before you post. |
| Meta reports the results in your Page's Ad Center. | On Studio, shows plays and reach for posted reels. |
Who should choose boosting
Boosting is useful and quick to set up. It suits you if:
- You already have posts that people respond to, and you want more people to see them.
- You have a budget for ads and want something simpler than Ads Manager.
- You want to reach people who do not follow you yet.
- You are happy to pick a post, set a budget and an end date, and let it run.
Meta suggests boosting a post that has already had plenty of comments, likes and shares, because that is a sign it resonated. Meta also says you can re-boost a post that keeps doing well. If you have posts like that, boosting them is a reasonable next step.
Who should choose ReelTempo
ReelTempo suits owners whose problem is having nothing new to post. Boosting needs a post to start from. Regular reels from your own footage give you more to post, and more to choose from if you do decide to boost. ReelTempo does not promise a number of views, followers or visits.
Using both
The two fit together. Make and post reels with ReelTempo, watch which ones people respond to, then boost those through Meta if you want them to reach further.
